In the midst of the increasingly dense urban hustle and bustle, the existence of green open spaces is becoming increasingly important. One interesting innovation that has emerged is the garden library. A garden library or often referred to as a reading park is a green open space equipped with various types of reading books. This unique library concept combines the love of reading with the beauty of nature which creates a comfortable and inspiring atmosphere for its readers. Visitors can choose the book they want to read, then sit back under the shade of the trees while enjoying the calm and comfortable atmosphere.
Park libraries are usually built in city parks, or even in smaller green areas such as residential parks. The designs vary greatly, from simple ones such as bookshelves under trees to more complex ones with small buildings equipped with facilities such as lounge chairs, study tables, bean bags, and hammocks for relaxing while reading. Some also provide free internet connection and power outlets for those who want to work or study. In addition, many park libraries also hold various literacy events, such as book discussions, book reviews, and writing workshops.

Garden libraries offer a more relaxed and inspiring atmosphere than conventional libraries. In addition to being a place to read, garden libraries can also function as green open spaces that are beneficial to the environment. Trees growing around the library can help absorb carbon dioxide, produce oxygen, and reduce air pollution. The existence of garden libraries can also improve the quality of life of the surrounding community by providing green and beautiful public spaces.
In Indonesia, park libraries have spread across several major cities such as Jakarta. However, there is still much potential that can be developed from this concept. With support from the government, the community, and various related parties, it is hoped that more park libraries will be built in various regions. The presence of these park libraries is expected to encourage people’s interest in reading, especially the younger generation. With a more relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, it is hoped that children and teenagers will be more interested in reading books. In addition, park libraries can also be a gathering place for book-loving communities to share experiences and knowledge.
