UB Library Held Workshop about Multimedia Development

Brawijaya University (UB) Library held a workshop with a theme “”Multimedia Development to Support Optimizing Digital Library” on Wednesday (29/1). This event was a collaboration between UB Library and Putera Sampoerna Foundation which was held in two sessions, seminar and workshop.
The Head of the Committee, Dra. Hermintatik, S.AB., M.A., said that this event was attended by 50 people who were the librarians of UB, reading room managers in both, Malang and Kediri.
The objective of this event is to make the participants to be able to understand multimedia service, implementation, and operation of multimedia in a library. In addition, through this event the participants are expected to be able to manage and develop multimedia which is appropriate to their fields so that it can improve the service quality which will lead to the satisfaction of library users in Brawijaya University.
In his speech, the Head of UB Library, Dr. Johan A.E. Noor, M.Sc., Ph.D., said that with this event participants are expected to be able to develop themselves and be professional in a career.
”I hope this activity can give benefit to the participants and improve their performance and professionalism. Hopefully next month, the library can hold events that are more useful,” said Johan.
Meanwhile, Dra. Widia Permana, S.Sos., M.AB., as the speaker said that multimedia is the use of technology to communicate information including the use of digital video, interactive programs, internet contents, graphic, audio, animation, 3D, 2D, illustrations, and media which are delivered by another computer.
“From the definition above, it can be seen that the scope of multimedia services has improved from online journal searching and e-book only. Because of that, now a librarian in digital era must be able to use multimedia services to convey scientific information in accordance to the demand of a growing science, so that the information can be delivered more clearly, faster, and precisely. In addition, the implementation must be supported with necessary infrastructure and the increased of librarians’ qualifications in order to utilize that modern facilities optimally.” She said.
The workshop session which was delivered by Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si., consisted of basic multimedia lab, audio-video, image editing, and making e-book. In this session, participants were required to actively create multimedia products both audio video, image editing, and e-book which would be submitted to the committee at the end of the event as a result of the workshop.
This event was closed by Drs. Johan A.E. Noor, M.Sc., Ph.D., as the Head of UB Library. He hopes that after this event, all participants were able to implement multimedia to support their performance. [translate by Ade Suminta Laksana]
